North Memorial’s Minnetonka Clinic has a state-of-the-art screening device for the diagnosis of osteoporosis – the DEXA scan, or dual energy x-ray absorpitometry. The DEXA scan measures the density of the bones of the spine, hip and wrist – the areas most often affected by osteoporosis. It is also used to accurately follow gradual changes in the bones.
Minnetonka Physicians takes appointments for the DEXA scan with a referral from a primary care physician. If you have questions about bone density, or if you have a family history of osteoporosis and think you may benefit from a DEXA scan, talk to your primary care physician. Your physician can discuss the procedure with you and determine if this screening is appropriate for you.
